Though I was born in Portland, I spent my childhood years growing up in West Linn, Oregon. Born into a musical family, my grandfather (Ralph Perrine) played saxophone for swing bands and my father (Lou Perrine) has performed and recorded with many well known jazz artists including Leroy Vinegar and Dave Brubeck to name a few. At a very young age, I saw Buddy Rich play a drum solo on the Michael Douglas Show, and that was it for me. I skipped over the art of banging on pots and pans and received a snare drum for Christmas when I was 5 years old. It was not until I was 12 years of age that I took more of a serious interest in drumming when the school band program began. The following year, I received the greatest Christmas present (next to a Red Ryder BB gun) that a child could ever get…. A five piece Leedy drum kit from my father. Oh the joy! Just in time for stage band in school! My interest in school band programs faded when I started playing in various rock bands throughout the Portland metropolitan area. At 19 years of age, I really started to get serious with music and emphasize reading and technique with Charles Steele, Gary Hobbs, and Ron Steen. After several years of musical hibernation and woodshedding, I felt ready to record and play live again in the music scene.
After a small tour with the Christian heavy metal band ‘Saint’, I relocated to the Bay Area in California to further my career in music and have resided there since 1987.
I feel blessed to be able to play drums after all these years and I thank God for all the people I’ve had the privilege to work with musically. Thank you everyone for helping me through all the craziness. God bless you all!
